Abstract

We report on experimental demonstration of digital coherent detection based on a directly modulated vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with bit rate up to 10 Gbps. This system allows a cooler-less, free running, and unamplified transmission without optical dispersion compensation up to 105 km at 5 Gbps long reach passive optical links.
