Abstract
The impact of 355 nm irradiation of commercially available polymer used in fibre coatings on the UV absorption profile, with and without hydrogen loading, was discussed. It was suggested that even at long wavelengths such as 355 nm where the adsorbed attenuation were zero in standard coatings, great care was required in the preparation of any process utilizing polymer transmission in the UV. The limitations in practical 355 nm exposure of optical fibre through the coatings for UV processing of photosensitive fibres were also elaborated.
