Abstract

Two-dimensional photonic crystals of InP-based rods with a guiding layer of InGaAsP have been fabricated. Implementation of a three-layer polymer structure creates optical confinement between the rods. This polymer layer stack has an additional advantage of reducing the scattering caused by sidewall roughness. The resulting two-dimensional photonic crystals are suitable for applications such as filters, cavities or microlasers in photonic integrated circuits.
