Abstract

Compared to RGB displays, RGBW displays enable higher luminance levels at equal power consumption. One of their drawbacks, however, is their reduced color saturation. In this paper, the trade-off between luminance and color saturation is evaluated in a perception experiment for several algorithms to map RGB input to RGBWpixel data. It is shown that the optimal mapping algorithm is affected by image content.
