To what extent are non-visual effects of light implemented in current lighting design practice? Findings from an international survey

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperAcademic

Abstract

This paper presents findings of an online survey on the design practice of lighting professionals and their knowledge about non-visual effects of light. The results showed that there is basic awareness among lighting professionals about the effects of light beyond vision, although discrepancies were noticed. Two thirds of the respondents stated that they have been involved in projects where non-visual effects of light were considered. Vertical illuminance was the most common metric
to quantify non-visual effects and uninterested clients was the most common barrier in design practice.
