Abstract

By means of the energy balance equation for a cyiindrically symmetric arc an expression is derived which shows the thermal conductivity of an arc plasma to be equal to the product of the so-called form factor and the derivative of el. power input with respect to the centre temperature. The form factor is a measure of the radial distribution of the el. conductivity and can vary theoretically between 0.5
