Abstract
The book (bilingual: English and Dutch) presents a richly varied picture of the Dutch border landscape and a range of designs strategies for planning this landscape. It adresses the context of internatuionalisartion in the Euroepan Union. Agaisnt the assumption that borders will be 'erased' and nations 'unified', teh book explores the heritage of borders. My chapter explores possibilities of preserving and enhancing local characteristics of the border that have a sense of the 'unbounded': away from the centre, and on the edge of encounter of the other and the exterior.
