Abstract
Atelier Kempe Thill was founded in 2000 by two German architects, André Kempe (1968) and Oliver Thill (1971). The office is active in a number of European countries, and its portfolio consists of a wide variety of projects, ranging from collective housing and small public commissions to large renovation, infrastructure and urban design projects Throughout the firm's oeuvre, consistent themes of openness and transparency become clear, manifested in facade designs that often employ extraordinarily large glass surfaces. Based on an interview with André Kempe, this article aims to understand the ideas and forces that influence these facades.
