Abstract

This paper introduces the research at a new type of task conditioning concept, the desk displacement ventilation concept. The total research comprises several phases, in which the measurement and calculation of indoor airflows play a major role: 1, Literature res~arch on velocity measurement techniques. 2. Experimental tests of different velocity measurement techniques, in particular the Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) technique. 3. Measurements at a full·scale experimental set-up of an office-model, equipped to operate according to the desk displacement ventilation concept. 4. Comparison with Computational Fluid Dynamics-simulations. After the introduction of the new desk displacement ventilation concept, this paper reports on phases one and two of this research project. A theoretical analysis of the PTVtechnique shows its suitabillity for indoor airflows. Two PTV'experiments underline the quantitative and qualitative possibilities. The generation of sufficient and consistently neutrally buoyant soap bubbles, which are used as tracer particles, still requires a technical solution.
