Abstract

A C3-sym. trimesic amide deriv. with peripheral oligo (ethylene oxide) side chains (compd. 1) shows discotic mesomorphism in a broad temp. range due to stacking of the extended core (Tg approx. -50 Deg; Tcl .apprx. 240 Deg). Mixts. of 1 and lithium perchlorate (LiClO4) also exhibit liq. cryst. (LC) properties as shown by polarization microscopy, DSC and x-ray diffraction studies. An increase of the Tg as well as a decrease of the clearing temp. are obsd. with increasing salt concn. The ion conducting properties of the LiClO4-mixts. of 1 were measured by complex impedance spectroscopy; promising levels of cond., up to 10-6S/cm at room temp., were recorded
