Abstract
The great exhibition of 1851 became a turning point in the development of the centrifugal pump. Several designs were shown, of which a few appeared to be very successful. Since then the centrifugal pump has developed into a high efficiency machine which can be adapted to suit almost any working condition. An overview is given of the history of pumping machinery in general and centrifugal pumps in particular.
