The design of slotted disc velocity selectors for molecular beams

Abstract

A method is described for the design of slotted disc velocity selectors for molecular beams. Special emphasis has been laid on the suppression of parasitic velocities, even in the case of small imperfections in the actual instrument. Suitable configurations with a minimum number of discs has been found with the aid of a digital computer. Results are given for a large class of selector types.
