Abstract

The design of repetitive assembly is usually very complicated. We propose a hierarchical design approach to deal with this complexity. This approach consists of three design levels: department design, line design, and work station design. In this paper we consider the second design level. At this level a cyclic assembly schedule is determined and the different tasks of the products are assigned to the work stations in the lines. We briefly discuss a method to solve both probJems simultaneously. This method is tested in a case study.
