Abstract

Notice this: The Department of Architecture, Building and Planning was founded in 1967 in Eindhoven. Shortly thereafter, the spirit of the times turned against architecture as a ‘justifiable’ cultural ambition. For more than fifteen years, according to Kees Rijnboutt, the architectural culture in the Netherlands limited itself to discussing and writing while neglecting the ‘profession’ - drawing and designing. So this means that the design culture in Eindhoven would trace back to no earlier than the beginning of the 1980s. The following article looks into recent history and makes a reconstruction partly based on the author’s personal involvement.
