Abstract

This paper deals with a viscoelastic layer of finite thickness which is loaded in plane strain by a circular stamp. The latter rolls over the surface of the layer with a constant velocity which is so small that inertial effects may be neglected. The resistance due to the viscoelastic effects is calculated in an asymptotic approximation to be used for values of the layer thickness which are small with respect to the width of the contact region.
