Abstract
This paper gives the results of an investigation into the subjective evaluation
(acceptability) of LCDs with typical line degradations. It is shown that, for 'Off'
lines, the mean acceptability score can be described as a function of the percentage
of defective pixels (picture elements) in the whole text. For 'On' lines a deficiency
parameter was defined (a linear combination of the number of defect columns
and rows and the percentage of defective pixels in the text) that can adequately
describe acceptability. Instead of the mean acceptability score a more convenient
measure, the acceptation percentaqe, can be used. Given a minimum acceptance
level, which may be determined on the basis of commercial arquments, recommendations
on rejection or approval of LCDs with production faults can be made .
