Abstract

Intercalation of a Ni-substituted mica montmorillonite clay (I) with Al and Al-Si oligomers gave pillared clays (II) and (III), resp. The surface area of II is greater than I, which is greater than III, and the rates of hydroisomerization of pentane at 250 Deg catalyzed by I-III are 2.5, 3.6, and 0.3 g/g/h, resp. II and III show agglomeration of the particles, which led to suppression of hydroisomerization catalysis
