Abstract

The authors studied the synthesis of metal - supermolecule block copolymers containing terpyridyl ligand and ruthenium complex. The block-copolymers were synthesized through the following three steps: (1) Synthesis of various polymers with terpyridyl group at the terminal, (2) formation of mono-complex with Ru(III), (3) formation of di-complex between the above various polymers and Ru(.IOTA..IOTA.). Various polymers with the terpyridyl group at the terminal were synthesized through the following two steps: (1) Etherification between the hydroxyl group at the terminal of various polymers and 4'-chloroterpyridine through anionic polymerization, (2) radical polymerization of various vinyl monomers by means of the functional initiator of terpyridyl containing nitroxide unit.
