Abstract
Mathematical reasoning is recognised as an essential means for promoting students’ mathematical understanding and is central to students’ mathematical proficiency. However, studies have shown that the teaching and learning of mathematical reasoning remain challenging in secondary school classrooms. Teachers need to have effective pedagogic practices to create environments where mathematical reasoning is explored in order to foster students’ mathematical reasoning. This raises the question of how teachers can be supported in developing their teaching practices to create such environments through, in this project, a professional development (PD) module. The topic for the roundtable discussion is how results from an exploratory study can be used to inform the design of a PD module.
