    Abstract

Digital photos are usually stored in directories in ifie systems at home. They are annotated and often explicitly categorized for later browsing and retrieval. Directory-based browsing techniques and keywords-based search methods, however, do not have the capability of revealing implicit conceptual relations among digital photos. Formal Concept Analysis proves to be a powerful method in data analysis and knowledge engineering and can be applied in photo applications. ICE is an innovative photo browsing and searching tool fully based on For mal Concept Analysis. Different from existing tools for Formal Concept Analysis, ICE provides a step-wise concept lattice navigation, guided by the user. This paper presents the design, mathematical and algorithmic foundation, and implementation of this tool.
