STEP: A model of standard English intonation patterns

    Abstract

    This paper describes a melodic model of British English intonation based on an extensive analysis of spontaneous speech. By using a ·set of six basic intonation patterns, the model, which is implemented in a computer program, can provide (almost) any English utterance with a plausible overall pitch contour.
