Abstract
PD-control (control using Proportional and/or Derivative feedback) is applied to a piecewise linearbeam system for steady-state vibration amplitudemitigation. Two control objectives are formulated: 1)to reduce the transversal vibration amplitude of themidpoint of the beam at the frequency where the firstharmonic resonance occurs, and 2) to achieve this in alarger excitation frequency range. The vibration reduction that is achieved in simulations and validatedby experiments is very significant for both objectives.Current results obtained with active PD-control arecompared with earlier results obtained using a passiveDynamic Vibration Absorber.
