Abstract

In the recent years Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) has gained a lot of attention, but little information is available about BIPV in Latin America and Suriname, therefore this paper aims at presenting a status overview of Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) in the Latin America and Suriname. The application of BIPV happens currently only on small scale in some countries of Latin America, namely in Brazil, Columbia and Chile. BIPV has still not been applied in the built environment in Suriname while the application of rooftop Building Added PV (BAPV) is growing currently. However given the fact that the high initial installation cost of rooftop BAPV is still a financial barrier at this moment for the citizens in Suriname BIPV will not emerge at present but hopefully in the future.
