Abstract
Speech Maker is a framework designed to be the basis of an implementation of a text-to-speech system. The core of Speech Maker is a multilevel synchronized information structure through which all information transferred between linguistic modules passes. A user interface is available to inspect and manipulate this structure in an interactive session, and a rule formalism to manipulate the information structure algorithmically by means of rules. The three together constitute the framework of Speech Maker, which is described.
