Using thermodn. models, the properties of the Al-C liq. phase have been evaluated from exptl. information on the carbon soly. in liq. Al. After slight modification of the description of Al4C3 presented earlier, the soly. has been described very well from 950 to 2500 °C with a regular soln. model for the liq. phase. Stability of Al4C3 was examd. through thermodn. calcns. under various conditions. It has been shown that the description of Al4C3 can account very well for most thermochem. measurements in a wide temp. range.
