Abstract

A process is described for prepg. cryst. layered Zr phosphate-type material having silica pillars intercalated between the layers. The materials are useful for absorption of large mols. The compns. are intercalated with 3-dimensional Si oxide pillars with >=2 Si atom layers parallel to the clay interlayers. The Zr phosphate-type mineral has the general formula M(OH)z(HQO4)2-z/2.xH2O, where M is a metal ion selected from the groups IVA and IVB and the lanthanide and actinide series of the periodic table, Q is an anion selected from groups VA and VIB, z = 0-2, and x is 0-8.
