Abstract

In this overview paper of wireless energy transport and harvesting at imec / Holst Centre we will discuss the need for wirelessly powering and charging wireless autonomous sensors. We will also discuss harvesting against transmitting RF energy and the use of license-free frequency bands with the associated regulation constraints and recommendations with respect to health. Examples of rectenna designs will be given as well as the underlying modeling tools for antenna, rectifyer and DC boost converter. Several applications will be demonstrated and first results of ongoing research topics – like simultaneously receiving energy and data - will be shown.
