Abstract

This article explains the development and installation of a foundation of a transportable hybrid energy unit, which generates electricity from wind and sun in outdoor events. The foundation has dimensional and weight limits because it has to be transported in a container via truck and ship. In addition, the foundation is stackable, which minimises storage space. The hybrid unit can be installed on different surfaces and grounds because its installation does not require earthworks and ground anchors. The foundation was designed following the Eurocode with the Dutch National Annexes. The foundation consists of a concrete central footing (module 1) which withstands most of the loads of the hybrid unit; six reinforced concrete peripheral footings which play an important role in the stability of the hybrid unit; and the trusses of the platform that connects the footings and the modules of the hybrid unit to work together. The hybrid unit has been installed at several locations in northern Europe and will be in continual use over coming years. The hybrid unit has met the safety requirements of regulations, municipalities, and festivals, which indicates that this foundation is suitable for this type of structure.
