Response to acoustic excitation of a cavity-backed plate

Abstract

In this paper, the dynamic response to acoustic excitation of a cavity-backed (flexible) thin plate is studied using the Galerkin method. It is assumed that the thin plate has clamped boundary conditions and that the remaining cavity walls are rigid (acoustically hard). In the low frequency region, the dynamic responses of the plate-cavity system are compared for several incident pressure fields, namely plane waves, spherical waves, and a diffuse sound field. From the results, it can be concluded that the type of the exterior sound field influences the system’s response.
