Abstract
A derivation is presented to predict an increasing or decreasing chilled water return temperature in part load for a simplified situation. It is shown that the slope of water return temperature also determines the shape, concave or convex, of a heat exchanger characteristic of a cooling coil. The new method is compared with the known method for calculating the heat exchanger characteristic.
