Abstract

HIGH-VOLTAGE INSTALLATIONS ARE DESIGNED TO CARRY 50 Hz POWER. THE OFTEN LONG STRUCTURES ACT HOWEVER AS TRANSMISSION LINES FOR HIGHFREQUENCY PHENOMENA. TRAVELING WAVES AND REFLECTIONS AT ENDS CAN RESULT IN COMPLICATED TRANSIENT WAVE SHAPES. THE TRAVELING WAVES AND THE REFLECTIONS CAN ALSO BE USEFUL IN RESEARCH, TO ANALYZE CERTAIN PROBLEMS. AS EXAMPLES WE DESCRIBE TRAVELING WAVES CAUSED BY PARTIAL DISCHARGES IN A POWER CABLE; TRAVELING WAVES ON A 66 KM LONG OVERHEAD LINE UPON ENERGIZATION AND TRAVELING WAVES IN A GIS WITH AN ADDITIONAL 4M LONG CORONA SECTION.
