Abstract
A control design methodology is proposed to controlan active dual-stage suspension for the reduction of flow-inducedvibrations (windage) in a hard disk drive. The design of thecontroller uses dynamical models of both the suspension and thestochastic behavior of the windage to design a low third-orderdiscrete-time feedback controller to reduce windage-inducedtrack misregistration. Experimental results show that nonrepeatablerunout errors due to windage are reduced by an order of amagnitude.
