Abstract
In phase-modulated continuous wave (PMCW) radar systems, the maximum unambiguous measurable distance and velocity are determined by its sequence length and chip duration. For a fixed choice of the two sequence parameters, some targets could appear at higher distance and/or velocity than the maximum unambiguous supported values. To address this problem, we propose a reconfigurable PMCW radar system that consists of two or more PMCW sequence transmissions with corresponding measurements, such that each measurement will provide a higher unambiguous range or velocity than the other. At the receiver, the multiple measurements are combined with target identification done using target angular information. By using this method, one can solve ambiguities in both range and velocity that would be present in a conventional single-measurement PMCW radar system.
