Abstract
The magnetic behaviour of the quasi-one-dimensional system CsFeCl3.2aq(aq=H2O, D2O) has been investigated by heat capacity measurements, quasi-elastic neutron scattering and spin-cluster resonance. the experiments demonstrate that below 25K the compound is a very good realisation of an (S=1/2) Ising system. The temperature dependence of the spin correlations within the chains above TN can also be described in terms of a classical spin model, based upon the full spin (S=2) of the Fe2+ ions.
