    Abstract

The title compns., with good adhesion, contain polyolefins and polyhedral, oligomeric Si-O cluster compds. Stirring 2.5 mol iso-BuSi(OMe)3 in acetone with 0.11 mol aq. KOH at 30 Deg for 3 days gave 96% iso-Bu8Si8O12, reaction of which (12.6 mmol) with 2.0 mL (MeO)3SiCH:CH2 in THF contg. 1.2 mmol Et4N+ OH- gave 57% iso-Bu7Si8O12(CH:CH2), reaction of which (5.9 mmol) with 6.4 mmol (EtO)SiH in PhMe contg. a Pt catalyst at 20 Deg gave 100% iso-Bu7Si8O12Si(OEt)3 (I). A 90:10 mixt. of poly-a-olefin (Vestoplast 708) and I had softening point 105 Deg. Use of the compns. as adhesives and carpet backings is exemplified. [on SciFinder (R)]
