Abstract

Platform competition and management shapes and is shaped by a constantly changing socioeconomic context. This implies that managers face transient strategic trade-offs in platform development and competition processes. The frameworks and empirical studies in extant literature do not account for this. A way to address the temporal aspect of strategic action in platform competition research is the systematic use of modelling and simulation alongside empirical cases. The paper explores the multi-level research agenda this opens up and develops sixteen research questions for future platform management research.
