Abstract

Plasma particle lofting is a possible solution to dust contaminations in a wide range of high-tech applications. It uses the plasma-charging of a surface and any dust particles on it, to create an electric force that removes the dust. There are however, no quantitative measures of this force, either theoretically or experimentally. Therefore we have built two dedicated experimental setups to quantify the force. With these we have determined the lofting force to be in the order of 1 μN on a 100 μm particle.
