Abstract

This chapter begins with a 60GHz wireless personal area network (WPAN) link budget analysis, which leads to the introduction of phased-array techniques. The operation principles and benefits of phased arrays are discussed. The phased array technique is compared to other multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) techniques. The step-size requirements of phase shifters in phased arrays are analyzed. Different phased array architectures are compared.
