Abstract
First year engineering students studying mathematics have a plethora of resources available, both digitally online and more traditional offline. Students have preferences regarding the resources they consider the most important to study mathematics. We present an overview of qualitative and quantitative studies we conducted between 2017 and 2018, in which we investigated in blended mathematics courses (1) which resources students used to study mathematics, (2) how they sequenced and aligned these resources, (3) which groups of students could be distinguished regarding the perceived importance of resources to study first year mathematics courses. We also present results of a study conducted among bachelor engineering students in 2019 regarding their attitude towards the use of internet communication technology for learning. We will reflect on the consequences of these results for the use of resources in an online learning environment.
