Abstract

To be able to measure PCCI combustion in an optically accessible engine, a heavy duty engine setup is equipped with an advanced common rail injection system. The engine is synchronized with a high speed camera and operated in burst fired mode to avoid overheating and thermal stress on the sapphire windows. In this abstract we show the stability of the combustion event as a function of the amount of subsequent combustion cycles. Furthermore we present the first soot luminosity images recorded of PCCI combustion using n-heptane.
