Abstract

XPS indicates that the organometallic compd. [PtI[C6H3(CH2NMe2)2-2,6](h1-I2)], (I), representing an end-on coordinated dihalogen intermediate in the oxidative addn. reaction of dihalogen to d8 metal centers, contains platinum in a divalent oxidn. state. The use of a monochromatized x-ray source, short measurement times, and a cooled sample are essential to avoid sample degrdn. [on SciFinder (R)]
