Abstract

Highly dispersed Pt-graphite catalysts were prepd. and then oxidized in either air or water. The EXAFS results indicate a large difference between gaseous and aq. oxidn. The oxidn. by gaseous O was highly corrosive, while surface and subsurface hydroxide species were formed in the aq. solns. The redn. of these oxidized samples was accomplished easily in either air or water
