Abstract

This paper presents an efficient home energy management system (HEMS) design for modern households equipped with domestic-scale energy technologies. The system considers the electricity and district heating energy carriers, with bidirectional energy exchange capability of electricity and heating, as well as gas carriers. The primary objective of the model is to optimally schedule and dispatch domestic appliances in real-time to achieve cost-effectiveness and minimize the carbon footprint as a secondary goal. To this end, mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) is adopted to model the multi-carrier HEMS. Also, the augmented $\epsilon -\mathbf{constraint}$ method (AUGMECON) is used to solve the multi-objective optimization problem (MOOP) and map the Pareto frontier. The final decision-making is carried out based on a multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) mechanism.
