Abstract
The profiles of weak shocks in gases showing either bulk viscosity or relaxation are compared. When the sound absorption coefficients are equal, there is a difference only in not too weak shocks, provided the real or apparent bulk viscosity is at least of the same order of magnitude as the shear viscosíty.
