It is pointed out that the equations of motion used to describe the shock transition are valid only approximately. Their solution has therefore a physical meaning only to the same degree of approximation. These solutions are derived for the Navier-Stokes and the Burnett equations. It is shown that the optical reflectivity of the shock is practically equal for both solutions.
