Abstract
A study is presented on the influence of water as aerosol on the electron density of an argon inductively coupled plasma. The presence of water is observed to have strong effects on the evolution of the electron density. It turns out to be useful to study the behaviour of the electron linear density, i.e. the number of electrons per unit length along the axis. The evolution of this quantity can be related to the recombination rate in the plasma. A possible explanation of the observed variations in the recombination rate is the formation of molecular ions.
