    Abstract

The aim of this project was to develop a new objective measurement system that can compare the performance between two electric shavers with regards to remaining long beard hairs. High definition photos were taken by a photographic system that consisted of a camera and crossed polarized lighting setup. An algorithm and a standard operating procedure (SOP) were developed and tested in order to detect long hairs from the photos.
It was shown that, with the current hardware, the repeatability and reproducibility of the system is high and the accuracy of detecting missed hairs is at 85%.
