Abstract

The mechanisms in org. mediated crystn. of Si-MFI were studied in situ and time resolved using X-ray scattering methods. Primary units with a size of 2.8 nm are present in the synthesis mixt., independent of the structure directing agent, alky. and presence of a gel phase. The formation of aggregates of these nanometer sized precursors is shown to be dependent on the alky. of the synthesis mixt. Our results show that these aggregates are needed for the nucleation process. Crystal growth probably occurs via addn. of the primary units
