Nonlinear vibration control of a base-excited beam with top mass using PZT patches

Abstract

In this paper, the nonlinear vibrations of a base excited vertical beam carrying a top mass are attenuated via PZT patches, which exert a control moment on the beam. The used nonlinear control law is based on a feedback linearization approach. For periodic base disturbances, the uncontrolled system shows several nonlinear resonances related to the first beam mode. Experiments show that the controller is able to suppress these resonances very well.
