Abstract

This paper studies bifurcations in systems with impact andfriction, modeled with a rigid multibody approach. Knowledgefrom the field of Nonlinear Dynamics is therefore combined withtheory from the field of Nonsmooth Mechanics. The nonlineardynamics is studied of a commercial wooden toy. The toyshows complex dynamical behaviour but can be studied with aone-dimensional map, which allows for a thorough analysis ofthe bifurcations.
